I left Newark Christmas day at 6:10 PM and arrived in Berlin at 7:45 AM the following morning. It was an overcast and drizzly day with the temperature in the low 50s and southwesterly winds gusting to 35 mph.
Skeet, Conrad, and I planned on riding the “Gauntlet” in northern Georgia in November, 2014. However, a snow storm moving through north Georgia that weekend caused us to change our plans. We rode from Gainesville – Tallahassee – Port St Joe – Apalachicola – Gainesville instead.
I left Chicago 6:25 pm August 2, 2015 and arrived in Amsterdam 9:49 am local time. The weather was clear with the temperature in the low 60’s.
I took a nap as soon as I got to the hotel. After waking, I grabbed my camera gear and backpack and headed out.
On the flight over, I couldn’t help but notice the full moon. When I got to my room, I glanced at the “LightTrac” app on my Ipad and noticed that the moon would be aligned with the Jardins du Trocadero and the Eiffel Tower around 10:00 pm that night. A plan began forming and I knew I wanted to be at the Trocadero in time to get set up by 10:00. I then took a nap.

The purpose of this trip was to capture Fall colors in North Carolina. We were hoping to capitalize on our scouting trip earlier in the year (see “Asheville, North Carolina May 4 – May 8, 2013”). The “leaves” reports from North Carolina indicated we might be a few days early, but due to scheduling constraints we went anyway.
This is a continuation of our February trip to Marathon. If you read that post, then you know that our first trip was inhibited by clouds and rain and we never really did get the sunrise and sunset photos we wanted.
